Georgia Governor Brian Kemp Is Allowing Some Businesses Including Hair Salons And Barbershops To Reopen This Week

If you’re a Georgia resident, gon’ head and call your hairstylist and your nail girl now because it’s about to get crazy! Georgia governor, Brian Kemp, said he plans to reopen some businesses this week as the state’s stay-at-home order is set to expire.

What’s on the list of businesses you ask? Well, Kemp said gyms, bowling alleys, hair salons, barbershops, nail salons and other similar businesses can reopen statewide on Friday, according to WSBTV.

Kemp is also allowing some restaurants and theaters to reopen with strict social distancing guidelines.

According to new data released Monday afternoon by the Georgia Department of Public Health, there are now 18,947 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the state, with 733 reported deaths.

Kemp said he will let the statewide shelter-in-place order expire on the 30th as planned, but elderly and medically fragile patients have to shelter in place until at least May 13th.

Kemp also said that he’s allowing elective surgeries to take place again, meaning surgeries that do not involve a medical emergency.

As far as spiritual practices go, Kemp is allowing houses of worship to hold-in-person services but within the social distancing guidelines.

He also said the Department of Public Health is starting to see a flattening of coronavirus cases and a decline of people being hospitalized for the virus.

The state has partnered with the state university system to ramp up more testing, according to Kemp, and a new app will now allow residents to see the status of their tests within 72 hours.

Kemp added that he’s deploying 10 new strike teams to help in hot spots across the state, while MARTA (Atlanta’s train system) is suspending over 60 bus routes starting Monday.

We’ll keep you posted on any updates.
