<p>It’s been a rough week for actress <a href="https://dev.theshaderoom.com/gina-rodriguez-publicly-apologizes-after-receiving-backlash-for-singing-the-n-word/">Gina Rodriguez.</a> After getting extreme backlash for saying the n-word while rapping along to The Fugees hit song, “Ready Or Not,” she issued an apology that most people were not here for. Now, she’s doubling down and has released an official statement addressing the matter.</p>
<p>As we previously reported, Gina Rodriguez was the talk of the Internet when she posted a controversial and offensive video of her saying the n-word as she rapped along to Lauryn Hill’s verse on The Fugees song, “Ready Or Not.” Once the video spread online, she offered a quick apology that many felt was tone deaf and didn’t acknowledge what she actually did.</p>
<p>Fast forward 24 hours later and Gina has <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/celebrities/2019/10/15/gina-rodriguez-says-n-word-apologizes-after-backlash/3988561002/">issued another apology</a>, this time in the form a full statement that she posted to social media and sent to media outlets.</p>
<p>The apology read:</p>
<p><em>“In a song of in real life, the words that I spoke, should not have been spoken. I grew up loving the Fugees and Lauryn Hill. I thoughtlessly sang along to the lyrics of a favorite song, and even worse, I posted it.</em> <em>The word I sang, carries with it a legacy of hurt and pain that I cannot even imagine. Whatever consequences I face for my actions today, none will be more hurtful than the personal remorse I feel. Watching my own video playing back at me, has shaken me to my core. It is humiliating that this has to be a public lesson but it is indeed a much deserved lesson. I feel so deeply protective and responsible to the community of color but I have let this community down. I have some serious learning and growing to do and I am so deeply sorry for the pain I have caused.”</em></p>

<p>If you’ll recall, this is not the first time that Gina has been called out for being anti-black, as there have been repeated instances in the last few years of her minimizing the black experience and accomplishments by black people in Hollywood.</p>
