#Roommates, have y’all seen #GirlsTrip?! This Malcolm D. Lee-directed film features #ReginaHall, #JadaPinkettSmith, #TiffanyHaddish and #QueenLatifah who portray a group of friends catching up on life during a trip to #NewOrleans for the #EssenceFestival. Girls Trip has become the 2017 ‘Sex and the City’ as many black women have flocked to theaters with their girlfriends to support the film.
All of the support that the film has garnered has allowed it to become the largest grossing live action comedy this year! Girls Trip has reportedly pulled in about $30.4 million domestically and it cost just under $20 million to produce it.
“Funny is funny. And it’s a really funny movie,” Universal’s President of Domestic Distribution Nick Carpou said. “Our four leads are excellent. If they make you laugh you’re likely to tell your friends. That’s what’s happening here.” Compare the success of ‘Girls Trip’ to that of what consumers dubbed its white counterpart, ‘Rough Night’. This film, which stars Scarlett Johansson, has taken almost 8 weeks just to bring in around $35 million.
We got a chance to see Girls Trip during the Essence Festival this year and it was amazing! We even learned a thing or two for the bedroom thanks to Tiffany Haddish! Who took notes during that grapefruit scene?! Lol!!!
