<p data-pm-slice="0 0 []"><strong> </strong>Roommates, if you recall, we recently reported in November that Dave Chappelle went on <em>Saturday Night Live</em> and spoke out against <a class="ProsemirrorEditor-link" href="https://dev.theshaderoom.com/viacomcbs-hopeful-to-work-with-nick-cannon-again-after-terminating-business-relationship-due-to-his-controversial-comments/">ViacomCBS</a> licensing &#8216;<em>Chappelle’s Show&#8217;</em> without paying him. He asked fans to boycott the show altogether and requested streaming platforms Netflix and HBO Max to remove the show from their platforms.</p>
<p>Dave continued to speak out more about not receiving payment by Viacom in an Instagram video. He said, “People think I made a lot of money from &#8216;<em>Chappelle’s Show.&#8217; </em>When I left that show, I never got paid. They (ViacomCBS) didn’t have to pay me because I signed the contract. But is that right? I found out that these people were streaming my work, and they never had to ask me, or they never have to tell me.”</p>
<p>Netflix granted his request last month, and as of today, HBO Max has announced it will follow suit and remove the show from its platform. This decision was <a class="ProsemirrorEditor-link" href="https://variety.com/2020/tv/news/chappelles-show-hbo-max-1234853533/">announced</a> at <em>Variety</em>&#8216;s Virtual FYCFest, according to Yahoo. Casey Bloy, <u>HBO Max</u>’s Chief Content Officer said he and Chappelle had talked and he came to the realization that the legendary comedian’s situation was a &#8220;very unique and specific and emotional&#8221; issue.</p>
<p>When speaking to Variety, Casey said, &#8220;So at the end of the year, December 31st, we&#8217;ll also, you know, we&#8217;re going to honor his request and take the show down.&#8221;</p>
<p>Casey didn’t want to get too much into the conversation, but he did mention that it was a very emotional situation for Dave. He did share, “It’s very, it’s an emotional issue for him, and you know if we can do something that makes him feel better about it, then I’d like to do that.”</p>
<p>Hopefully, this means Viacom will pay Dave soon.</p>
