Remember when we reported that Jay Z was looking to buy famous Swedish music streaming company Aspiro a few weeks ago? Well his $56 million that he made rain on the company has now acquired enough shares for him to officially take over, putting him in direct competition with the big dogs like YouTube, Spotify, Pandora, and Apple!
Well according to Bossip, just a few days before the Grammy Awards he held an all day emergency meeting at the Fig House, a low key venue near Pasadena, with some of the top stars in the industry throughout all genres. People in attendance were Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, Daft Punk, Madonna, Chris Martin from ColdPlay, Jack White, Rihanna ( who reportedly came in at the end of the meeting, who comes late to a Jay Z meeting– only Rihanna!!) and his wife, Beyonce. Also in attendance were lawyers, music executives, and assistants all who are reportedly linked to Jay’s RocNation group.
Sources told Bossip, that the meeting was called because Jay Z wanted to brainstorm on how they can turn Aspiro into “a streaming music and video service where artists can actually make money from their art and put out quality material.” He focused on artists’ rights and how to diminish commercialism. It is reported that Daft Punk made some great arguments and Kanye West was still at his wild antics! It sounds like a Charlie’s Angels secret mission or something going on in there!
The rapper turned business mogul’s acquisition was confirmed in Sweden on Wednesday and an official announcement has been made on Friday. “All conditions for completion of the offer have been fulfilled, and the offer is therefore declared unconditional,’’ Project Panther said in a statement. “Accordingly, Panther will complete the acquisition of the shares tendered in the offer.”
Aspiro will be known as TidalHifi when it relaunches in the U.S. It will offer subscribers a $19.99 a month service of high def digital music. It looks like Jay Z is trying to head straight for the history books!
