#Roommates, Janet Jackson and Nas are two of the biggest and most influential artists in music history, whose contributions to music date back decades—and now two of their most beloved and critically-acclaimed albums just received a major honor. The Library Of Congress just announced that both ‘Rhythm Nation 1814’ and ‘Illmatic,’ by Janet Jackson and Nas respectively, have been formally inducted.

@Complex reports, every year the Library of Congress selects a list of recordings to be enshrined inside the National Recording Registry—and this year Janet Jackson and Nas are the two biggest stars who have received the incredible honor. Janet Jackson’s 1989 Grammy-winning, chart-topping third album ‘Rhythm Nation 1814’ and Nas’ 1994 debut album ‘Illmatic’ (largely considered by many as one of the greatest hip hop albums of all-time) have both been formally inducted.

The two albums were among a group of 25 recordings deemed worthy of preservation by Carla Hayden, the Librarian Of Congress. Janet and Nas’ albums were chosen from a long list totaling almost 1,000 recording submissions. Speaking about the new inductees,’ Hayden said “The National Recording Registry will preserve our history through these vibrant recordings of music and voices that have reflected our humanity and shaped our culture from the past 143 years. We received about 900 public nominations this year for recordings to add to the registry, and we welcome the public’s input as the Library of Congress and its partners preserve the diverse sounds of history and culture.”

Nas is riding high these days, as he finally received his long-awaited Grammy award for Best Rap Album for his critically-acclaimed effort ‘King’s Disease.’ Meanwhile, it was announced earlier this month that Janet Jackson is getting a two-night documentary set for Lifetime and A&E that will give her fans an in-depth look at her life, that she will executive produce.

Congrats to these two legends!
