Kanye West recently responded to a lawsuit that a fan filed against him regarding the release of his last album “The Life of Pablo.”
According to Billboard, a fan has filed a lawsuit against the rapper claiming he has failed to bring his last album, “The Life of Pablo,” as an exclusive to Tidal.
The fan claims Kanye participated in “deceptive conduct,” by luring fans in to subscribe to the streaming service with the impression it would be the only outlet to hear the album. When in fact the project was later released on other platforms.
Last year Justin Baker-Rhett filed the class action in a U.S. District Court in San Francisco and referenced to tweets from Kanye to support his claim. One of those tweets read, “My album will never never be on Apple. And it will never be for sale… You can only get it on Tidal.”
The project was released on Tidal in February of 2016, and later tweaked and released on other platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music. Kanye’s defense team is using his alterations to the album to prove his tweets were true, seeing how the original version was released on Tidal, making it an exclusive.
In the documents seen by Billboard, it reportedly reads, “He has altered lyrics, changed vocals, added new beats, and remixed songs. In other words, the original version of The Life of Pablo, which debuted on Tidal in February 2016, was always exclusive to it.”
Kanye’s team, of course, wants the case dismissed, also stating in the documents, “Plaintiff does not dispute that there are differences between the versions of the album available on the different streaming services, and therefore he has not shown that Mr. West’s tweet about the exclusivity of The Life of Pablo on Tidal was false.”
