Back in October, Sean Penn and Mexican actress Kate del Castillo flew to Guadalajara, Mexico to meet with El Chapo during his 6-month hiatus from prison. They were there to make plans to film a movie about the drug lord’s life, but it seemed as though El Chapo was more interested in del Castillo!
Anyway, her people allege that Sean Penn’s Rolling Stone interview with the narc was a literal last-minute decision and it blindsided her! They allege that she had no idea that he had secretly been working with the publication to get his story and she’s pissed. Now that El Chapo has been captured, her life has been put in danger. According to TMZ, El Chapo’s lawyers contacted Kate on behalf of the drug lord while he was on the run. Their Kate source says that he wanted to meet the actress and was interested in an “Mexican-Godfather” bio movie on himself. After receiving the invite, Kate put two filmmakers, Espinoza and El Alto Garcia, on the project and the trio were scheduled to meet Chapo but only for the movie.
The sources go on to say that one of the filmmakers told Kate that Sean Penn would be tagging along after he heard about the El Chapo meeting. She was all for it again because she thought it would help the movie.

“Our Kate sources say unbeknownst to her, Sean approached Rolling Stone Editor Jann Wenner, told him about the El Chapo meeting and got a green light to write the story for the magazine. Sean says in his article, Wenner gave the assignment to him, Espinoza and Garcia, but not Kate.
Our sources say Rolling Stone gave the 3 men a letter making the assignment official, which allowed them access to Mexico with a certain amount of legal immunity as journalists. Wenner and Penn never included Kate, which meant she never got such immunity.
Our Kate sources say when the group met with El Chapo, Penn blurted out almost immediately … he was doing an article for Rolling Stone and asked El Chapo’s permission for an interview. Kate says she was blindsided … she had no clue Sean and the 2 men had ulterior motives.”.
#BishYouGuessedIt, though! Penn’s camp is saying that these allegations are not true as they maintain that she was always aware of an impending article. The sources also claim that she signed off on the article before it was published and was heavily involved with the fact-checking. So who’s telling the truth?
Since El Chapo’s re-capturing, the actress has actually been branded as the person who set up the interview. TMZ reported, “Del Castillo’s getting credit for setting up Penn’s interview with El Chapo, and an ex-member of Kate’s SECURITY force tells us that’s not a good look. The source says drug cartels “act on what they think, not what they know” — and they could be thinking she and Penn led the marines, even accidentally, to El Chapo.”
