Kay Flockwas just indicted by a federal grand jury on racketeering conspiracy charges, all while he awaits trial for murder.
The newest indictment claims the Bronx drill rapper and five others of running the Sev Side/DOA (short for Dead on Arrival) street gang, which adds several counts in connection to his separate murder charge, according to TMZ.
The indictment states that the gang’s main focus was committing robberies and acts of violence, along with financial fraud and charges of attempted murder and illegal firearm possession.
Over a span of several years, the members of these gangs allegedly terrorized neighborhoods in the Bronx and Manhattan by killing and shooting other people, U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said in the Department of Justices press release. Through these charges, we will hold Sev Side and Third Side members responsible for plaguing our communities with gun violence.
Meanwhile the 19-year-old has still managed to release music, thanks to his collaboration with Cardi B “Shake It” which peaked at No. 51 on the Hot 100 last April.
The rapper is already behind bars as he awaits trial for a previous allegedly murder, according to reports.
Regarding the newest charges, Kay Flocks attorney, Jeffrey Lichtman, told Pitchfork:
“Were not surprised by the federal charges as weve been fighting Kevins state murder charge for over a year nowand considering the shooting was a clear act of self-defense, it wasnt a particularly strong charge. That its now being used as a basis for a possible death penalty charge is extraordinary.”
Lichtman doubled down on his client’s self-defense case, claiming “it is crystal clear that (he) was about to be shot after attempting to walk away from his attacker.”
“On video, it is crystal clear that Kevin was about to be shot after attempting to walk away from his attacker. Only then, did Kevin use a weapon to defend himself and another from an armed, violent gang member who was about to pull out the loaded gun in his hand.”
At the time of his arrest, Kay Flock had released The D.O.A. Tapevia Capitol Records, and has since re-released the project as The D.O.A. Tape (Care Package), which includes the aforementioned Cardi B collab.
