Select Makes & Models Pose A Fire Risk

According to AP News, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has acknowledged that the anti-lock braking system (ABS) control module in certain Kias and Hyundais can leak fluid and spark an electrical fire.

The malfunction can occur whether the car is parked or in motion. As a result, affected vehicle owners are advised to park away from buildings until the issue is repaired.

The publication reports that both companies have spoken on the situation in separate statements. Hyundai acknowledged 43 reported instances of fire breaking out or parts melting as a result of “thermal incidents.” Meanwhile, Kia addressed ten reported instances of fire/ part melting.

We should note that both companies have reportedly assured consumers that people haven’t reported any crashes or injuries due to the malfunction.
