Roommates, Kirk Franklin has been making headlines recently for the increasing drama regarding his oldest son—and after issuing a public apology following the leak of an explosive video, he had more to say in a new interview. Kirk Franklin and his wife Tammy recently spoke with Tamron Hall about the viral clip his son leaked of Kirk cursing at him and claiming that he was also physical with him.
Kirk Franklin continues to clear his name, as he recently appeared on Tamron Hall’s daytime talk show to discuss the issues with his 33-year-old son, Kerrion. He got straight to the point about their rocky relationship throughout the years, revealing that the two have consistently been in and out of therapy for over 20 years. Kirk also acknowledged that as the years went by Kerrion’s “disrespect became more aggressive.”
He continued and elaborated about their ongoing battles as father and son:
“Now that he’s about to be 33 as a grown man the relationship at times can become very agitated and very frustrated…but I’m not going to stop trying to help. He’s my son, he’s my firstborn, and I never want him to feel what I felt not having a father…It’s important for me because what if that call is the call that things change.”
Kirk also added that respect is a two-way street and that Kerrion seems to have trouble understanding that. “I respect Kerrion. I’m not Kerrion’s equal though. I’m not his equal, I’m his dad. And when you talk to me, especially about things that you say that you want from me, I can’t hear you when you are extremely aggressive when we’re communicating, and that’s why a lot of times, Kerrion and I haven’t talked sometimes for a year or two.”
As for the curse words he used in the viral audio clip, he admitted his imperfections. “In that fight, it can become so difficult that my humanity, unfortunately, that day, won. And I’m going to keep trying, while still continuing to admit that I am an imperfect man fighting to serve a perfect God.”
