If there’s anyone who deserves to have a street named after them right by the Staples Center, it’s the legendary Kobe Bryant.

Just a day after the late basketball icon’s 42nd birthday, Los Angeles City Council President Herb J. Wesson Jr. made the announcement, saying the plan is in the works, according to TMZ.

Kobe is the Staples Center. He played there for nearly 20 years and now plans are being drawn out so that LA’s Figueroa Street, between Olympic and MLK boulevards, will be renamed Kobe Bryant Blvd.

“Kobe’s legacy is bigger than basketball. Kobe Bryant Blvd will be a reminder to everyone, young and old who drive down it, there is no obstacle too big and that with the #Mambamentality,” Wesson said… “Anything is possible.”

For those who may be more familiar with landmarks than streets, Kobe Bryant Blvd. will essentially stretch from the L.A. Coliseum through USC and go just past Staples Center.

Kobe Bryant played every single season of his 20-year NBA career with the L.A. Lakers, but the team didn’t actually move to the Staples Center until 1999.

Kobe’s final game and the famous landmark was a 60-point one! Los Angeles and the world will truly not be the same with Kobe’s absence.

The city had plans of honoring Kobe in a major way since his untimely passing in January.

August 24th has already been declared Kobe Bryant Day in Orange County, where he lived with his wife and daughters for so many years. The resolution for the declaration stated, “During his career, Kobe Bryant’s numbers on his jerseys were 8 and 24, therefore a fitting day to celebrate his legacy would be August 24.”

Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with Kobe’s loved ones and fans at this time.
