Kodak Black and his legal team are weighing all options when it comes to getting him out of prison, and that even means turning to Donald Trump for help.
In a petition obtained by TMZ, Kodak’s attorney’s Bradford Cohen and Jonathan Schwartz are asking Trump for help with reducing Kodak’s sentence. Cohen highlights that Kodak was sentenced to 46 months in his federal gun case, but claims the standard sentence for the same crime is 18 months.
As previously reported, Kodak is currently serving his time in a maximum-security federal prison in Kentucky. However, Cohen says the Bureau of Prisons “erroneously” viewed Kodak as level 4 criminal history, resulting in Kodak being placed in a maximum-security facility. He continued to claim that the judge only put Kodak at a level 2, which means that he should be at a lower-security prison.
Kodak’s legal team continued to state that he was unfairly punished twice for assaulting a guard at his previous prison in Miami.
His team continued to state that he was supposed to get a 6-month sentence but instead ended up with year-long punishment, which has kept him on lockdown since last September. He has only been able to get visits from his attorney’s and no one else.
In the petition, Trump is being asked to take into consideration the alleged abuse Kodak has been suffering while behind bars, as well as mental abuse and religious suppression.
As previously mentioned, Kodak is suing the Federal Bureau of Prisons for the alleged abuse he’s experienced from the guards.
The petition is also asking for Kodak’s charitable efforts to be taken into consideration as well.
TMZ notes that Bradford Cohen has a connection to Trump because he was a contestant on “The Apprentice” back in 2005, and he also represented Trump’s former campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski.
