<p data-pm-slice="0 0 []">Laverne Cox is clearing the air and addressing her &#8220;entanglement&#8221; comment to Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith during the SAG awards last weekend. If you recall, Laverne caught heat from <a href="https://dev.theshaderoom.com/vivica-a-fox-calls-laverne-coxs-red-carpet-entanglement-comment-tacky/">Vivica A. Fox </a>who said Laverne&#8217;s comment was &#8220;Tacky.&#8221; Today, Laverne hopped on Instagram to clarify what she meant during the quick interview.</p>
<p>In a lengthy live stream conversation, the actress started addressing Vivica&#8217;s concerns about the wrong place and time to make such a comment. Although she said that it was a joke, Laverne held herself accountable. &#8220;I&#8217;ve been thinking about it. No one is above critique. I like to hold myself accountable. This is part of my process as a human being. When I&#8217;m wrong, I try to promptly admit it,&#8221; she said. As the live continued, Laverne detailed how much she loved Jada&#8217;s show &#8216;Red Table Talk&#8217; and her love for the Smiths.</p>
<p>Laverne admitted her error was that she wanted to say so much to the couple, but she didn&#8217;t have enough time, doubling down that the joke was taken out of context. &#8220;My intent was not to mock or make fun of but obviously, I understand there is a difference between intent and impact,&#8221; she added. Towards the end of the conversation, some of the viewers asked Laverne if she would apologize, to which she quickly objected.</p>

<p>&#8220;I did not apologize. This is not an apology. If the Smiths need an apology from me, I will find out privately, and I&#8217;ll do that privately,&#8221; she explained. While reiterating that her words were not to serve as an apology, she offered that they should be viewed as a love letter. &#8220;This is a love letter to them and an invitation to think critically about our relationship to what we call &#8221; mess.&#8221;</p>
