Roommates, we are praying for the family and friends of hall of fame boxer Pernell lWhitaker. Unfortunately, he has passed away after being hit by a car in Virginia Beach.

According to Fox News, authorities responded to an emergency call Sunday night about an accident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. Upon arrival, police say they located an adult male who had been hit by a vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle reportedly stayed on the scene, as Whitaker was pronounced dead.

“I guess he was wearing dark clothes, the road was dark and the driver didn’t see him,” Whitaker’s son said.

Police are still investigating the incident, and it is unclear whether or not the driver of the vehicle has been arrested.

Pernell #SweetPea Whitaker’s reputation sure does speak for itself. He was inducted into the international Boxing Hall of Fame in 2006, and is considered to be one of the greatest fighters of all time.

He has stepped in the ring with everyone from Oscar De La Hoya to Julio Cesar Chavez. He also holds the record for longest unified lightweight champion in sport’s history.

Sweet Pea also represented the United States in the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. He won’t the gold medal in the lightweight competition defeating Luis Ortiz.

After retiring from the sport, Sweet Pea continued his career in boxing as a trainer in Virginia. He was the head trainer for former welterweight champion Zab Judah.

Sweet Pea is survived by his wife and five children.

Continue to keep his family and loved ones in prayer during this difficult time, Roomies!
