Lena Waithe has proven to be one of the top creators in today’s industry.
Back in 2017, she became the first black woman to win an Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series for her work on Netflix’s “Master of None.”
According to Deadline, Waithe will be honored with the Trailblazer Award at the upcoming MTV Movie & TV Awards.
Amy Doyle, the general manager of MTV, VH1, and Logo said, “Lena is shaking up Hollywood and breaking cultural boundaries through her innovative and authentic storytelling. Her unwavering passion for equality and inclusion make her the perfect recipient for this year’s Trailblazer Award.”
Most recently, Waithe has received praise for her Showtime series, “The Chi,” which stars Jason Mitchell, Jacob Latimore, Alex R. Hibbert, Ntare Mwine and a host of others.
The 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards will be hosted by Tiffany Haddish and will go down on June 18th.
