Memphis Grizzlies player Ja Morant has released a statement following his second suspension from the NBA. As The Shade Room previously reported, Morant was seen flashing a gun in an Instagram Live that surfaced over the weekend.

The event comes just two months after Morant flashed a gun while live streaming in a Colorado strip club on March 4. At the time, the 23-year-old faced an eight-game suspension, participated in therapy, and sat for an interview with ESPN, where he took “full responsibility” for his actions and proclaimed that he would avoid “bad decisions” moving forward.

Ja Morant Releases A Statement Acknowledging Fans' "Disappointment"

A statement from Ja Morant was shared via Adrian Wojnarowski’s official Twitter account Tuesday evening. Wojnarowski is a columnist and reporter for ESPN.

In his statement, the 23-year-old acknowledged fans’ disappointment and took “full accountability” for his actions.

“I know I’ve disappointed a lot of people who have supported me. This is a journey and I recognize there is more work to do. My words may not mean much right now, but I take full accountability for my actions. I’m committed to continuing to work on myself.”

Social Media Reacts

Social media users quickly reacted to Morant’s statement in The Shade Room’s comment section. Some felt his statement was “copied” and pasted from his last sentiments.

Instagram user @dj_cee_kay wrote.

“He copied and Paste statement from last time.”

While another user, @glctamya, shared they believe Morant will have to “learn his lesson” the hard way.

“He’s the type of person where he has to lose everything for him to learn his lesson.”

Instagram user, @karenederrico, echoed similar statements — pointing out how “fortunate” Morant is to receive second and third chances.

“We want you to seriously learn from this! Some people aren’t as fortunate to get 2nd and 3rd chances! #jamorantgetittogether“

While Instagram user @iambrendak seemed to remain unsatisfied with Morant’s response.

“Ain’t no “journey” about it. You want to live the hood life so bad when so many people trying to come up out of the hood. You didn’t disappoint “a lot of” your supporters, you’ve disappointed everybody! If you don’t want this privileged life, just say that!”

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver Shared His Thoughts On Ja Morant's Repeated Actions

Before Ja Morant released his statement, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver shared his thoughts regarding Morant’s repeated actions during an episode of ‘NBA Countdown.’

He explained that he believed Morant seemed to take his first suspension from the NBA “incredibly seriously” and was “shocked” to see Morant repeat the same behavior.

“An eight-game suspension was pretty serious, and something that — he at least to me — seemed to take incredibly seriously… We spoke for a long time about — not just the consequences it could have on his career but the safety issues around it. [He] could’ve injured… killed himself, someone else with an act like that…”

Silver explained that he believed Morant shared his concern about setting a better example for the children that look up to him “globally.”

“I, at least, was left with the sense that he was taking this incredibly seriously. So I was shocked when I saw it this weekend — that video. Now, we’re in the process of investigating it, and we’ll figure out exactly what happened to the best we can… I’m assuming the worse but we’ll figure out exactly what happened.”

Silver is not the only one to share his astonished reaction to Morant’s actions. As The Shade Room previously reported, Shannon Sharpe recently explained that he is “disappointed” by those who have defended Morant amid his negative behavior.

While former NBA player Kwame Brown coined a nickname for Morant, “NBA Dumb Boy.”

Additionally, Jalen Rose shared that he feels it’s not the “end” for Morant, and he still has time to “reclaim his decision-making.”
