Keke Palmer is opening up about her postpartum experience and sharing advice for other mothers who feel pressured to “bounce back” after giving birth. As The Shade Room previously reported, Palmer welcomed her first child, a son named Leodis Andrellton Jackson, with boyfriend Darius Daulton Jackson in February.

Keke Palmer Addressed The Pressure Mothers Feel To 'Bounce Back' After Pregnancy

In a recent interview with PEOPLE, the 29-year-old actor addressed the pressure that mothers feel to return to their pre-pregnancy body after giving birth.

“… The main thing I would say to any new mom is do what you can when you can, whatever it is that makes you feel good…”

Palmer explained that if a mother is diligently set on returning to her pre-pregnancy body, she should put all her effort toward that goal. However, if that’s not something the individual feels pressured to do, they should not “worry” too deeply about it.

“If it’s important to you, then hell yeah put in the work miss girl. Get you whatever diet you want to do or whatever workout regimen that works for you. And if that’s not what you’re worried about, then don’t worry about it.”

The best thing, Palmer says, is for an individual to do what makes them “feel good.”

The Actor Is Encouraging Mom To Go At Their "Own Pace" & Not That Of Celebrities

The 29-year-old then reflected on her own experience in the weeks after she gave birth to her son.

Initially, she explained that she didn’t want to do anything.

“I didn’t want to do nothing. I didn’t want to talk to nobody…”

However, when the time came that she felt ready to get “active,” she moved at her “own pace.” Additionally, Palmer encouraged others to do the same.

“Then I was like, ‘I need to talk to somebody. I need to do something.’ Then I was like, ‘Now I want to get active.’ It changes, so go at your own pace.”

The 29-year-old even addressed the celebrity mothers who seem to “snap back” right after they give birth, explaining that, most of the time, the quick progress is because that celebrity may have a job on the line.

“Anytime you see a celebrity doing a snap back or whatever like that, it’s part of the damn gig. A part of our jobs is to look good and to look the part. So don’t think it’s this thing where it’s like, ‘We doing it because we got it like that.’ No, the job is on the line. If we want the checks to get signed, we got to be what we got to be.”

Keke Palmer Reflected On Her Own "Personal Journey"

Before the interview came to a close, Palmer reflected on her “personal journey” and explained that the “main thing” she’s learned as a new mother is to do what makes her feel happy.

“I’ve gone on my own personal journey with how I feel about my physical appearance. And I think the main thing I’ve learned through my experience is to do what makes me feel happy…”

Furthermore, Palmer explained that whether she feels she needs to tone things down or step things up, she always follows her gut and goes for it.

“If I feel like I need to hold it back and I need to do a little bit more work, or [if] I want to feel better about myself, I just do it.”

Roommates, what do you think of Keke Palmer’s advice?
