Marsai Martin continues to achieve and reach new heights at the age of 16. She just took home two NAACP Image Awards for her work on “Black-ish” and just a reminder that she is the world record holder for the youngest Hollywood executive producer for her film “Little.”

So what’s next for this bright young woman? Well, we can tell you one thing her future projects won’t feature–Black pain.

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Marsai discussed the rules around her office and when it comes to pitching, she has a no “Black pain” rule.

“I don’t do no Black pain. If it’s Black pain, I don’t go for it because there’s so many films and projects about that, so that’s not who I am,” Marsai said in the interview. “I want to make sure that it is diverse and real in its own way.”

Marsai continued, “I know a lot of people don’t like the word ‘authentic,’ but I just love real stories that people can resonate with, even when it doesn’t resonate with you personally but you know a friend who’s dealt with that or families.”

Marsai added that she loves a good plot twist because it “gets me every time, just something that is real and something that you can grow up watching, tell your kid’s kids about it and just having those moments because I mean, I love old school stuff.”

She describes herself as an old soul, acknowledging that her grandma had an influence on the films that she watched.

“So having something like that to where my kid’s kids can watch something and still love it is something that I want to do,” Marsai said.

Marsai’s take on the whole situation is quite refreshing. I can’t wait to see what this young queen produces in the future!
