On this day 25 years ago, Mary J. Blige officially released her sophomore album My Lifeand once you pressed play you instantly knew that it was something special. Having already achieved enormous success with her debut album Whats The 411? Mary upped the stakes and completely changed the R&B game forever with My Life. Featuring a collection of songs that perfectly mirrored what she was going through in her life at that pointdrug use, abusive relationships, depression, broken heartthe album touched fans on various levels.

Its often said that every artist has a defining body of work and if thats true, My Life is definitely Marys. Executive produced by Sean Diddy Combs and featuring a host of some of the hottest producers of the day, including Chucky Thompson, Dalvin Degrate, Herb Middleton and Prince Charles Alexander. The album went triple platinum, was nominated for a Grammy and crowned the top-selling R&B album of 1995.

Singles like the lead track Be Happy, the Rose Royce cover Im Goin Down and the Barry White-sampled You Bring Me Joy were just a few of the reasons why the album is still in rotation today.
