Meek Mill has no shame when it comes to speaking about the city that he’s from, and he has made great strides to help Philadelphia become better for the youth than it was when he was growing up. Over the weekend, Meek had an interesting suggestion about how to stop some of the beef in Philly.
In a series of tweets, Meek says that he would be willing to give record deals to some of the up and coming rappers out of Philly if they agreed to stop beefing! He explains that a lot of these rappers have large followings, but only for negative and violent reasons.
“I’ll get all the main artists in Philly a deal if they put them bodies behind them and squash them beefs,” he said. “I hear about…got some young bulls from my city but they all beefing! And that’s just an idea but I’ll push thru with my city if y’all make it a thing! It’s like 5 cliques that’s talented but they deep in! And get they most attention when they beefing!”
Though it seems like Meek has nothing but good intentions behind his idea, local artist Poundside Pop call him out on the ‘gram, and fans on Twitter had mixed reactions to Meek asking for everyone to call a truce.
“How is Meek wrong? Why give a deal to somebody just for them to go back to the f*ck sh*t and go to jail to get killed lol?,” one Twitter user asked.
Another user called Meek “dumb,” saying that it’s not so simple to forgive people for killing their loved ones, despite money and fame being on the table.
“Meek dumb asf. He think he the voice of reasoning. He needs to take a step back from the ego and realize that it ain’t that simple. NO MAN IS GONNA FORGIVE THE OTHER MAN FOR KILLING HIS BROTHER,” he said.
As we’ve previously reported, Meek Mill has been doing work through his Reform Alliance Organization to aid in prison reform around the country. Prior to linking up with Jay-Z to create the organization, Meek introduced legislation to help improve the Pennsylvania probation system as well.
Hopefully some artists will come around to Meek’s idea, and the city will see changes in the culture of violence.
