Whew! Mendeecees is receiving a lot of side-eye based on a response he gave to his wife Yandy Smith when she asked him if he’d hold her down if their roles were reversed in regard to his prison bid.
The “Love and Hip Hop” stars hashed out their issues on an upcoming episode of VH1’s “Couples Retreat,” in which they addressed their trust issues surrounding Mendeecees’ time in prison.
They touched on prison being an insecurity for Mendeecees after Yandy said, “I feel like when he was locked up, I was locked up.”
Mendeecees got defensive, accusing Yandy of not checking in and sending emails as frequently as he wanted her to. He also essentially called her a liar when she said they talked on the phone every day while he was locked up.
Yandy expressed her frustration, saying she had to worry about taking care of their children and running five businesses and wasn’t as concerned with the frequency in which they communicated.
But the heat turned up when Yandy flipped the situation on him, asking if their roles were reversed, would he be able to hold her down if she was behind bars.
His answer shocked many, but especially Yandy:
Yandy responded to Mendeecees’ revelation saying, “So, Mendeecees finally admitted that he doesn’t know if he would stay if the roles were reversed and that’s so hurtful…but to hear him sit here in my face and be like ‘I don’t know’ like that’s so unfair.”
Mendeecees faced quite a bit of backlash on social media for what he said. Quite a few people mentioned he could take a page out of Papoose’s book in the way that the rapper held his wife Remy Ma down when she served time in prison.
On Wednesday, Mendeecees cleared the air about his response and this is what he had to say:
