<p>Back in 2007, Kevin Morton was closing up an Arby&#8217;s after his shift when he was shot in the stomach and left to fight for his survival. As he began to heal, Morton reevaluated his life and set himself on a new path where he eventually decided that he would go to school to be some a doctor! He was inspired by Dr. Dharti Sheth-Zelmanski who had saved his life that fateful night nine years ago.</p>

<p>&#8220;The compassion and drive that Dr. Sheth has shown in trying to save my life &#8230; I just wanna pay that forward,&#8221; Morton told NBC News. He is now 31 and graduated from Michigan State University&#8217;s College of Osteopathic Medicine last week! This week, Morton is actually set to begin his residency at the same exact hospital that he was admitted to, alongside Dr. Dharti Sheth-Zelmanski.</p>
<p>We knew he wasn&#8217;t going to give up,&#8221; Sheth-Zelmanski told NBC News. &#8220;We weren&#8217;t gonna give up — so we had to make it happen.&#8221; Now this child is a doctor and has a wife and a young daughter to make proud.</p>
