Missy Elliott To Receive Video Vanguard Award At 2019 MTV VMAs

It’s about time! After years of fans lobbying for her to receive it, MTV has finally made the right decision and selected iconic and innovative rapper/producer/singer/songwriter Missy Elliott as this year’s recipient of the Video Vanguard Award.

While many other artists have gotten the award before her, most hip hop fans have long argued that Missy should have received the award several years ago. Apparently, @MTV was listening to the overwhelming support she was getting from her fans and finally decided that her time is now.

In a statement about Missy receiving this year’s award, MTV had this to say about what to expect from the legendary artist:

“With a long-awaited seventh album on the way, Elliott’s reign as rap royalty is far from over, as is her standing as a VMA legend. Along with receiving the Video Vanguard Award, she’ll also hit the stage for what’s sure to be an explosive live performance that’ll have everyone losing control — don’t miss(y) it.”

Missy took to social media to express her gratitude at being the 2019 Video Vanguard Award nominee, writing:

“I am Humbly Grateful to be receiving the MichaelJacksonVideoVanguard Award. I Thank my FANS “Supafriends” who fought diligently to see this day come @KidFury @crissles who rooted for years 4 me. I am crying happy tears Thank you God @MTV @vmas I am SO HUMBLED.”

The MTV VMAs air August 26^th at 8PM.
