A recent wave of crime sprees in Kentucky may come to an end now that13- year -old, Cheyenne Phillips and her boyfriend 18-year-old Dalton Hayes have finally been caught by the police.
USAToday reports that the couple was found asleep in a 2001 Toyota Tundra (that was stolen in Henry County, GA) in Panama City Beach, FL. early Sunday morning. But both were taken into custody “without incident” and are facing mutliple felony charges.
Reportedly the couple ranaway from their Kentucky home earlier this month and began their criminal lifestyle of check fraud, robbery,and car theft stretching from Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina and Florida. Hayes has only been dating Phillips for three months and thought she was actually 19.”Cheyenne would go in and write checks, and she would come out with cigarettes and stuff, so I didn’t have any reason not to believe she wasn’t 19,” says Tammy Martin, Hayes’ mother. “Because normally you can’t buy cigarettes when you’re 13 years old.” She goes on to say that by the time her son found out how old she really was he didn’t leave her because he had already fell in love with her.
The couple was able to evade police on multiple occasions after being spotted in many different places including a Wal-Mart in South Carolina. His mother urged them both to turn themselves in and face their consequences but clearly neither took that advice.
I just find it crazy how media portrayed this couple in such a cute light meanwhile they are wreaking havoc all over the place but I will leave it up to the roommates to draw their own conclusion on contradictions in media we just report it.
