Momolu Stewart Released From Prison After 23 Years With Help Of Kim Kardashian

Roommates, a Washington, DC inmate has just been released from prison after spending nearly 23 yeas behind bars for murder. With the help of Kim Kardashian, he can now live as a free man.

According to the New York Post, 39-year-old Momolu Stewart  was convicted of murder in 1999 after being tried as an adult at the age of 16. His life sentence, however, was suspended Friday and he walked out of the DC Central Detention facility on Monday.

“I was buried alive,” Momolu said. “So now, I’ve been resurrected. I’m back and I’m better.”

Two months ago, Kim Kardahsian championed Momolu’s case, writing a letter in his support to DC Superior Court Judge Robert Salerno.

The petition for his release was filed under the Incarceration Reduction Amendment Act, which allows inmates who were tried as adults while children request to have their sentences reduced.

“Stewart is especially deserving of your consideration,” Kim wrote in a heartfelt letter. “He has been rehabilitated and is no longer dangerous to society.”

She continues saying: “While he cannot go back and change what happened when he was 16 years old he takes responsibility for the pain he has caused to the victim’s family, and feels true remorse for his role in the crime that resulted in the loss of life.”

Kim also speaks on Momolu’s upbringing, being from a rough DC neighborhood “overrun with drugs and violence,” as leading him toward illegal activity. His mother murdered his father when he was 6 years old, and without a father figure, Momolu “turned to the streets for guidance,” Kim wrote.

While in jail, Momolu also earned his GED and too classes through the Georgetown Prison Scholars Program.

“I have every confidence that upon his release he will continue to guide others away from a life of crime and continue on his own path to redemption and success,” Kim said.

This is not Kim’s first legal victory, however. Since she took on the challenge of fighting for those who have been incarcerated, she has worked to release at least 17 inmates, with the help of her legal team.
