While ABC is sitting over there perched in Shondaland, Fox has been doing television some much needed justice this year. I believe that it’s because they’ve made great efforts to diversify their network!
Shows like Empire, The Mindy Project and even Bob’s Burgers are a few of the network’s shows catering to people of color. The newest addition to this melting pot looks like it will be Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, because his new show My Friend 50 just found a home at Fox! Ava Tramer (Angie Tribeca) wrote the script for the show and they are bringing on the very talented Will Packer to executive produce!
It looks like Mr. Jackson was playing hard to get though, because Variety reports that he finally decided to settle down with Fox after receiving “multiple offers.” My Friend 50, “revolves around Amanda Kramer, an unstable 20-something who believes that joining 50 Cent’s entourage is the answer to all her problems. Her unlikely journey with 50 Cent’s crew takes the form of a bizarre documentary commissioned by the most unreliable narrator in history — Amanda.” Although 50 currently stars in Power on Starz, he will also executive produce My Friend 50 and make appearances as a version of himself throughout the season, according to Variety.
Now, Will Packer has produced many great shows and seven #1 movies! Just check his credentials:
“In addition to his two TV series — NBC’s Truth Be Told and ABC’s upcoming Uncle Buck — on the feature side Packer has produced seven No. 1 films, including Ride Along, Think Like A Man and its sequel, and also was an executive producer on hit Straight Outta Compton. His next film, Ride Along 2, opens on January 15. Will Packers Productions TV development slate also includes a Think Like A Man comedy series adaptation and drama The Diplomats at Fox; as well as comedy Bonita & Mechelle, with Eva Longoria producing, and drama Buckhead, both at NBC.”
Due to Will’s impressive resume, it was a no brainer for him to sign onto the project. He’s under a first-look deal under Universal at the moment, so this will be huge for his career! A script for the show was ordered this week, so there’s no word on when production will start, but this is all so exciting! It’s amazing having more faces that look like us on tv!
