Y’all know that password sharing is a thang across these streaming platforms. It looks like Netflix is sick of it and is searching for a way to stop it from happening.

According to reports, the streaming giant is testing out a new feature that prompts users to verify they live with the account holder.

“If you don’t live with the owner of this account, you need your own account to keep watching,” is what the message reads, BBC reports.

Users are then able to verify they have permission by receiving a code via text or email.

A spokesperson for Netflix reportedly told BBC, “This test is designed to help ensure that people using Netflix accounts are authorised to do so.”

No word on if this will be rolled out for all of the 200 million users worldwide, but it’s uncertain just how many ineligible users are accessing the platform.

In 2019, chief product officer Greg Peters expressed that Netflix was looking into password sharing but didn’t have “big plans to announce at this time in terms of doing something differently there,” according to BBC.

This comes months after Netflix announced its pricing increase, in October of 2020. The change in price comes as Netflix looks to invest more in their content and product features.

Prices are being updated “so that we can continue to offer more variety of TV shows and films,” a spokesperson told The Verge.

“As always we offer a range of plans so that people can pick a price that works best for their budget,” the spokesperson added.

Also, in October of 2020, Netflix also ended their 30-day free trial. A note on the company’s website stated, “Free trials are not available, but you can still sign up and take advantage of all Netflix has to offer.” Reminding people that there are no contracts or cancellation fees, Netflix continued to say, “There are no contracts, no cancellation fees, and no commitments. You have the freedom to change your plan or cancel online at any time if you decide Netflix isn’t for you.”

“As always we offer a range of plans so that people can pick a price that works best for their budget,” the spokesperson added.
