New Jersey’s Governor Phil Murphy is playing no games when it comes to the Rona.
It’s no secret that many U.S. cities are seeing spikes in coronavirus cases. Some areas, such as Chicago, have even issued new stay-at-home orders ahead of holiday gatherings in the coming months.
The state of New Jersey is no exception and Murphy had to let his coronavirus-fatigued residents know in a recent press conference to just hang tight.
While pleading with his residents to maintain the coronavirus guidelines, Murphy rattled off a series of numbers showing residents how the virus is spiking in the state before a reporter asked what he’d say to those who are dead tired of these Covid-19 protocols, NBC News reports.
“You know, what is your message to the people who apparently are tired of wearing the mask over their nose as well as their mouth, they think it’s uncomfortable and annoying and it’s just too much for them to handle, they’re just not doing it,” the reporter asked Murphy.
“You know what’s really uncomfortable and annoying? When you die. That’s my answer,” the exasperated governor shot back. “This is not forever. We’re in a sprint right now and we’re just asking people to bear down.”
Of coronavirus tests administered last weekend in New Jersey, 12.02 percent came back positive, and on Wednesday there were 1,827 Covid-19 hospitalizations in the Garden State — the most since June 4, according to state data. And of those hospitalized, 360 are currently in intensive care and 117 are on a ventilator.
Knowing people want to celebrate Thanksgiving with loved ones, Murphy stressed the pandemic would not last forever.
“But we are in the throes of it right now. We are still at war and in fact we’re far more at war than we were a month or two ago. And we have got to ask you folks, please limit Thanksgiving. Please limit any private setting gatherings. Please wear your face coverings even if you’re sick and tired of it, who can blame you, so am I, you got to wear them.”
