New Reports Outline How The Homeless Can Still Receive A Stimulus Payment

#Roommates, many Americans are living their best lives as their bank accounts are confirming they have finally received their stimulus payment, however America’s homeless seem to be left out of the good fortune…until now. Several new reports have confirmed that even though someone may technically be homeless, there are still ways for them to receive the same $1,400 stimulus payment as everyone else who qualifies.

@CNN reports, there are three main reasons why those who are homeless may be faced with issues trying to claim their stimulus payments—but the good news is that there are ways around them. The first reason is that homeless individuals largely don’t file taxes because their annual income is generally too low for it to be required. The second reason is the obvious issue of not having a secure address where a payment could be documented and/or sent. Finally, the last reason is that currently more stimulus payments are available via prepaid debit card…and you still need a physical address to receive it.

Luckily, while it may be a bit challenging, the homeless can still be able to receive their stimulus payment. Relief is available in the form of the Get It Back Campaign—which specifically assists eligible workers to claim tax credits and use free tax filing assistance. Additionally, those who are homeless should utilize BankOn, a project of the Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund, that connects people who don’t have bank accounts to banks it says are “safe and affordable.”

As for the issue of not having a fixed address to mail the payment, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau offers a number of options for the IRS to be able to send stimulus payments, including homeless shelters, places of worship that hold mail for clients, rented mailboxes or even or General Delivery—a service of the USPS that offers a temporary mailing address.

The Get It Back Campaign has a number of on/offline resources for advocates of those who are displaced to still receive their payments, such as flyers and more.
