<p class="p1">Whew, diversity in the workplace is really essential chile.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>According to CNN, a new study has found that <a href="https://dev.theshaderoom.com/i-am-my-sisters-keeper-preserving-black-motherhood-as-a-doula-helping-to-deliver-one-healthy-black-baby-at-a-time/"><strong>black newborns</strong></a> in America are 3 times more likely to pass away when looked after by white doctors.</p>
<p class="p1">The study was published Monday in the journal ‘Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America’ (PNAS).</p>
<p class="p1">The study shows data of 1.8 million hospital births in Florida from 1992 to 2015 that was captured and analyzed by researchers from George Mason University.</p>
<p class="p1">The researchers found that the mortality rate for white babies was largely unaffected by the doctor’s race compared to their black counterparts,<a href="https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/18/health/black-babies-mortality-rate-doctors-study-wellness-scli-intl/index.html"><strong> CNN reports</strong></a>.</p>
<p class="p1">&#8220;Strikingly, these effects appear to manifest more strongly in more complicated cases, and when hospitals deliver more Black newborns,&#8221; the authors of the study wrote. &#8220;The findings suggest that Black physicians outperform their White colleagues when caring for Black newborns.&#8221;</p>
<p class="p1">The authors also touched on racism, without assuming that being the reason of the findings.</p>
<p class="p1"> &#8220;Taken with this work, it gives warrant for hospitals and other care organizations to invest in efforts to reduce such biases and explore their connection to institutional racism.&#8221;</p>
<p class="p1">&#8220;Reducing racial disparities in newborn mortality will also require raising awareness among physicians, nurses, and hospital administrators about the prevalence of racial and ethnic disparities,&#8221; they added.</p>
