It looks like the city of New York will be one of the first major cities to require proof of vaccination in order to participate in indoor activities.

According to CNN, NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio made the announcement on Tuesday, and said, “If you’re unvaccinated, unfortunately, you will not be able to participate in many things. If you want to participate in our society fully, you’ve got to get vaccinated.” Plans to enforce this policy will reportedly begin to go into effect within the next few weeks as corporations began to present the vaccine requirements for their employees.

One of the many indoor activities that have already started to announce the requirement for vaccination for both consumers and employees is Broadway theaters. They will be requiring both their audience employees to be vaccinated at least through October.

According to NBC New York, the initiative is currently being called “Key to NYC Pass,” and is expected to begin on September 13th.

Bill de Blasio continued to speak about the vaccination requirement and added, “If you want to participate in society fully, you’ve got to get vaccinated. It’s time. This is a lifesaving mandate to keep our city safe.”

At the moment, the details about what this new initiative will mean for those who cannot get vaccinated, which is either for religious or medical reasons, are still being considered, as well as for those who are under the age of 12.
