center&semi;">What Exactly Is Sickle Cell Disease&quest;<&sol;h3>&NewLine;<p>For context&comma; the condition described &&num;8220&semi;a group of inherited red blood cell disorders&&num;8221&semi; that causes the cells to be sickle-shaped as opposed to their usual&comma; disk-like appearance&period; According to the <a href&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;www&period;cdc&period;gov&sol;ncbddd&sol;sicklecell&sol;facts&period;html" target&equals;"&lowbar;blank" rel&equals;"noopener">Centers for Disease Control and Prevention<&sol;a>&comma; the red blood cells being sickle-shaped can lead to a variety of issues within the body&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<blockquote><p>&&num;8220&semi;The sickle cells die early&comma; which causes a constant shortage of red blood cells&period; Also&comma; when they travel through small blood vessels&comma; they get stuck and clog the blood flow&period; This can cause pain and other serious complications &lpar;health problems&rpar; such as infection&comma; they weren&&num;8217&semi;t fully aware of how the condition would affect their family&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>They also noted that&comma; as their daughter continues to become more aware of her condition&comma; they want to focus on promoting education about sickle cell disease while teaching Nazaneen to be open about how she&&num;8217&semi;s feeling&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<blockquote><p>&&num;8220&semi;She&&num;8217&semi;s only 5&comma; so we haven&&num;8217&semi;t gotten to the point where I actually explained to her what her body is going through&comma; but I have let her know that it&&num;8217&semi;s just really important to always tell Mommy—whatever you&&num;8217&semi;re feeling&comma; center&semi;">How The Family Uplifts Nazaneen Through Some Of The Condition&&num;8217&semi;s Challenges<&sol;h3>&NewLine;<p>Additionally&comma; the Colemans addressed some of the different ways they&&num;8217&semi;ve had to adapt for the sake of their daughter&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>For one&comma; they don&&num;8217&semi;t allow her to go outside if it&&num;8217&semi;s too cold&comma; as it&&num;8217&semi;s important for people with sickle cell disease to stay warm&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<blockquote>&NewLine;<p id&equals;"mntl-sc-block&lowbar;1-0-30" class&equals;"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html">&&num;8220&semi;For my daughter&comma; she does not go outside at school if it&&num;8217&semi;s below 50 degrees&period; I have to keep her really warm&comma; and when she comes home from school&comma; I have to check her fingers and her toes&period; I have to ask her if she has any aches or if anything hurts&comma; or if she&&num;8217&semi;s having any pains&period; And she has been having pains actually&comma; she&&num;8217&semi;s been having some pains in her legs and her feet&period;&&num;8221&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<&sol;blockquote>&NewLine;<p><amp-twitter data-tweetid&equals;"1617507685791850498" layout&equals;"responsive" width&equals;"600" height&equals;"480"><&sol;amp-twitter><&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>However&comma; they&&num;8217&semi;re sure to try to make it fun by &&num;8220&semi;disguising a lot of what &lbrack;they&rsqb; do for her as self-care&period;&&num;8221&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<blockquote><p>&&num;8220&semi;I&&num;8217&semi;ll just say&comma; &&num;8216&semi;Okay&comma; we&&num;8217&semi;re gonna have a spa day&period;&&num;8217&semi; I&&num;8217&semi;ll massage her legs and do a mani-pedi&comma; kind of rub her feet and get some of that circulation going because the one thing I don&&num;8217&semi;t want to do is put too much fear in her&period;&&num;8221&semi;<&sol;p><&sol;blockquote>&NewLine;<p>Akilah added&comma; &&num;8220&semi;I want her to be able to identify what she&&num;8217&semi;s feeling&comma; but I also want to protect her&&num;8230&semi;I want her to be able to vocalize what she&&num;8217&semi;s feeling without being scared&period;&&num;8221&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>As for Tevin&comma;
