The long anticipated Nina Simone’s biopic, staring Zoe Saldana, is set to hit theaters later this year!
The film’s release was delayed numerous times because people weren’t buying Zoe Saldana as Nina Simone.
However, it looks like the film will happen after all under RLJ Entertainment. The biopic is said to depict Nina Simone’s life as a social activist and musician. Viewers can expect Zoe Saldana to portray Nina’s major contributions to the Civil Rights Movement and music industry.
RLJ Entertainment chairman, Robert L. Johnson, spoke about his excitement for the film release by stating, “I had the special privilege early in my career of working with Ms. Simone while coordinating a performance for former D.C. Delegate Walter E. Fauntroy and knowing first-hand of her major contribution to the soul and emotion of the civil rights movement,” he said in a statement, noting that “her story and legacy” will made available across “various media platforms in the coming months.”
