A billboard demanding the arrest of the officers who killed Breonna Taylor at her Louisville home has been vandalized with red paint, according to the Courier Journal.
The billboard was one of 26 purchased by O, The Oprah Magazine, earlier this month. The billboards feature Breonnas face with the words, Demand that the police involved in killing Breonna Taylor be arrested and charged.
The red paint on the vandalized billboard was smeared across Breonnas forehead, making it appear as if it was a gunshot wound.
It wasnt immediately clear who did this to the billboard or if local police were investigating the crime.
The billboards, which point people to the social justice organization Until Freedom, went up the same week the magazine released an issue featuring Breonna on the cover, the first cover not focused on founder Oprah Winfrey.
Activist Tamika Mallory, who has organized and participated in a number of protests demanding justice for Breonna, shared the vandalized billboard on her page Tuesday asking the public to stand with them as they continue to fight in Louisville.
We must confront the mindset in this picture, Tamika wrote. Its flowing from the top to the bottom. We are stronger together! #OccupyKentucky #BreonnaTaylor.
Its been more than 5 months since Breonnas death and the officers who shot her remain free. Attorney Benjamin Crump shared that he and Breonnas family met with the Kentucky Attorney Generals office recently, and are hopeful that they are one step closer to justice but so far, no formal charges have been brought forward.
Only one of the officers involved, Brett Hankison, was terminated from his position since the shooting. The other two officers are still employed by the police department.
