Rising Black Celebrities to Look Out For

Even with the halt COVID-19 put on many Hollywood productions, Black Hollywood continues to thrive, with many up-and-coming entertainers making their mark in the music, acting, and comedy realm. Keep up with the many black artists who are about to make their big break by checking out some of the top rising black celebrities to look out for below.

Brittney Spencer

Brittney Spencer is definitely a promising rising star. This amazing artist is both a singer and a songwriter. In 2020, she released her debut EP, ”Compassion,” and she has since received many raving reviews. She broke through by doing a cover of ”The Highwomen” that went viral on social media platforms and reached 120,000 views on Twitter.

Her passion has been country music since she was fifteen. She got the inspiration for her songs from the popular country band, ”The Chicks.”

Thuso Mbedu

Thuso Mbedu is from Africa and was raised living with her grandmother, as both of her parents passed away when she was very young. Thuso started studying at the University of the Witwatersrand at the age of eighteen and graduated in Physical Theatre and Performing Arts.
Her role in the South African telenovela Is’Thunzi brought her a nomination for an Emmy Award. Thuso Mbedu’s career is on an upward trajectory, and we’ll be seeing her as the main character in the new Amazon Original ”The Underground Railroad” series soon.

Bree Runway

Brenda Wireko Mensah, also known as Bree Runway, is also one of the most influential rising music stars. She is a multi-talented lady with a lot of potential. Bree Runway is of Ghanian descent, but she was born and raised in Hackney in November 1992.

She started to build a career in 2015 when she self-released her first RNWY and Bouji EPs. After the big breakthrough, Bree was praised by famous artists, like Doja Cat and Cardi B, and she even had a collab with Missy Elliott in 2020. After that, she decided to release her debut album. Bree Runway is the main theme in 2021 and will surely remain so for a long time.

Eli Goree

Eli Goree is one of the hottest stars in the film industry. Eli is originally from Canada and has been familiar with the small screen for a long time. However, he gained more recognition when he played in famous shows such as ”Ballers” and ”Riverdale”. The role of Cassius Clay in the film ”One Night in Miami” earned him the attention of the entire nation and incredible popularity.

Jonathan Majors

Jonathan Majors is already a well-known American actor with a brilliant career in front of him. People know him for his roles in ”The Last Black Man in San Francisco” and HBO’s ”Lovecraft Country” TV series. The role of Atticus Freeman, which he played in this popular series, has garnered positive reviews from many film experts.

The future of Jonathan Majors looks very bright. He’s about to become a member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and we will watch him acting in some great film productions. Jonathan Majors also earned one of the main roles in the upcoming western ”The Harder They Fall.”

Javicia Leslie

Javicia Leslie was born in May 1987 in West Germany. She got her first big role on the movie ”Swim at Your Own Risk” in 2016, and after that, Leslie started acting in TV shows.

The series in which Javicia first captured the imagination of her audience is ”The Family Business”, which is still going strong. Her biggest success, so far, is the legendary title role in the second season of the Batwoman series, where she replaced Ruby Rose. This rising actress is on her way to becoming a big movie star in the next few years.
