It’s hard to believe it has been three years since Saana Lathan shaved off her hair for her starring role in the Netflix film “Nappily Ever After.” Although it doesn’t feel like it has been that long, Sanaa reminded her followers of the timeline as she provided an update on her hair’s growth on Thursday.
She took to Instagram to show off her natural tresses and said, “Good morning. 3 years after shaving it off. Protective styles, braids, and almost no heat. #nappilyeverafter.”
If you all remember, she shaved her head back in 2017 for her role as Violet Jones in the Netflix film “Nappily Ever After,” which released in September 2018.
While working on the film she posted the results of her haircut to social media to show fans that she was completely dedicated to the role.
She talked to Entertainment Weekly about what it was like for her to go through the process of shaving her head and said, “It was intense… I had butterflies for the week before because I knew that it was very crucial for Violet’s journey and it was a one-shot deal and there was the added thing of I’m shaving my head. Then there was, what is my head going to look like? So, I purposely decided I wasn’t going to think about what emotions I wanted to play.”
“I wanted to go into it completely as Violet in the scene and just see what came up, and it was really surprising. It was really an emotional rollercoaster, so many emotions that came through,” she said. “It was terrifying, but like most terrifying things, once you jump, it turns out to be surprisingly great. I actually continued shaving my head for four months after we finished the film because it felt so freeing, so good.”
