Two days after the polls closed, election officials are still tallying votes in the too-close-to-call race for Georgia’s new governor. The race is still undecided however Trump has declared Republican Brian Kemp the winner and says it’s time for Democrat Stacey Abrams to move on.
“[Kemp] ran a great race in Georgia — he won,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “It is time to move on!”

According to the Washington Post, there have been reports of voting irregularities and missing or uncounted ballots in the state. “Kemp first declared victory over Abrams on Wednesday night, as a flurry of reports described lengthy voting lines, missing or inoperable equipment and a dearth of provisional ballots in key precincts during the previous day’s election,” the site reports.
Kemp is currently in the lead with 50.3% of the vote, according to CNN. “Brian Kemp is 25,622 votes above the threshold for a runoff election. Twenty-five thousand votes of nearly 4 million cast are at issue in this race,” said Lauren Groh-Wargo, Abrams’ campaign manager, “By (Kemp’s) own admission, there are at least 25,000 outstanding votes, and hundreds if not thousands of more that we are learning about and discovering every day.”
The campaign has also launched a new lawsuit in Dougherty County, where voters have alleged a delay in the distribution and processing of absentee ballots that began over the summer and was compounded by the effects of Hurricane Michael, which struck in October.“We have reports of ballots never showing up, or being mis-delivered, and there was an incredible backlog,” Kurt Kastorf, a member of the Abrams legal team, told reporters. “The county was continuing to send ballots at least as late as last week.”
Abrams has vowed not to concede until every ballot is counted and processed. Roommates, we will keep you posted as more details on the race are released.
