So, yesterday we reported to you guys that Lauryn Hill’s camp finally released a statement that explained her absence from the Grammy’s this Monday.
At first, Hill’s people said that the performance was never “approved” or “confirmed,” but then they explained how the singer wanted the duet to be a surprise! Chile, first of all, unless you’re Beyoncé, nothing’s a surprise anymore and secondly, how can you rehearse for a show that wasn’t “confirmed”?
Nonetheless, Recording Academy president, Neil Portnow had no problems explaining his account of the apparent miscommunication… On who’s part? *Kanye Shrug*
He said:
“When it came to show time, we were told she was late – three minutes out, seven minutes out and she didn’t make it. She didn’t make the performance, she didn’t get into the building on time.
If I have to be some place on time, I figure out how to do that. But great credit to The Weekend. With all best intentions, things changed, but he killed it.”
Considering Ms. Hill’s history of missed shows and engagements, they could have payed better attention to her. Do you think the Recording Academy will have her back anytime soon?
