Snapchat is doing big things in 2021! The company announced a series of new features and partnerships at its annual Partner Summit.
The social platform just announced that it reached over 500 million monthly active users!
That’s apparently nearly one of every two smartphone users in the U.S.
Some of the new features Snapchat announced include Snap’s first pair of glasses that bring augmented reality to life.
‘Spectacles’ are lightweight, cordless AR display glasses just for creators. Users build lenses in Snapchat’s ‘Lens Studio’ to overlay onto the world they’re living in. The tech glasses are not for sale, but have been offered to a select group of global creators to experiment and create the world they want to see.
Another new feature Snapchat introduced is called ‘Screenshop,’ which will allow users to shop looks they see on Snap.
“When you Scan a friend’s outfit or your own saved photos, it helps you shop similar looks with recommendations from hundreds of brands,” according to a Snapchat news release. “This builds on our existing Scan capabilities, which can use the Snapchat camera to identify types of plants, dog breeds, wine bottles, car models, songs etc. through partner integrations.”
For the creators, Snapchat is introducing ‘Story Studio’–a new standalone app that gives creators a suite of editing tools to make professional content for mobile, on mobile.
Subscribers can now send gifts to official Snap Stars to kickstart conversations on Snap. “Snap Stars earn a share of the revenue from Gifts, which are received through Story Replies and purchased via in Snapchat Tokens,” according to the release.
