<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Deemed as a performance for the culture, Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, and Eminem gave us the first hip-hip centered performance during the <a href="https://dev.theshaderoom.com/?s=super+bowl+lvi&;post_type=post">Super Bowl LVI halftime show</a>. With Snoop Dogg’s</span> <span style="font-weight: 400;">Crip Walk</span> <span style="font-weight: 400;">and his all blue bandana jumpsuit, which many may deem to be associated with the Street Gang, The Crips, Snoop Dogg says Jay-Z is responsible for the authenticity of the show.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In an interview with <a href="https://tidal.com/magazine/article/snoop-dogg-conversation-22/1-83691">Elliot Wilson</a>, the 50-year-old revealed that Jay Z, who partnered with the league in 2019, gave the NFL an ultimatum. It was either the performers of the show were allowed to remain true to their brand, or he was reportedly walking away from the partnership with the NFL.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“We love each other. Like, not secretly, like publicly, we love each other,” the rapper expressed. “It is what it is, so it’s like for him to go to bat for us and tell the NFL, ‘F**k that. They perform, or I quit,’ that was the most gangster s**t out of everything.” Snoop continued to say, “Then with attire and kneeling and all this … you can’t wear your gang bang s**t? JAY-Z hit me like, ‘Wear what the f**k you want to wear. Peace to the Gods.’”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">After the halftime show, Snoop says Jay-Z was the first person to come to the dressing room and express his excitement. “Jay was the first one that came to the dressing room when I got offstage. We had [300 Entertainment label CEO] Kevin Liles in there. Kevin Liles had Jay on FaceTime, trying to show him where we was at. So then he came down, and soon as he came in, he hugged me,” Snoop said.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">He also stated, “We hug each other tight. It was as if we won a championship. Like, you know when you’re genuinely happy for each other? People don’t understand; me and him are the ones. He’s the one on the East. I’m the one from the West.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">As you know, Jay-Z and the NFL formed a relationship that would allow Jay-Z to oversee the entertainment options for the NFL back in 2019. Jay-Z’s input was to help with the NFL’s “Inspired Change” initiative. The news of the partnership received a bit of backlash, as it happened when tensions between the league and Colin Kaepernick were at an all-time high.</span></p>
