A group of Historical Black Colleges & Universities (HBCU’s)– Spelman, Morehouse, and Clark Atlanta– will now require students and faculty to be vaccinated before returning for class.
The Atlanta University Center Consortium (AUCC) will require three Black colleges and universities—Spelman, Morehouse, Clark Atlanta, in addition to Morehouse School of Medicine and the AUC Robert W. Woodruff Library, to be fully vaccinated at the beginning of the upcoming semester, according to an announcement.
“As AUCC member institutions plan for summer programming and the fall semester, using the latest scientific data to implement vaccination protocols is the next step in keeping our community safe,” the leaders of the AUCC members said in a statement Monday. “Vaccination of our community members is critical to continue meeting our highest priority—maintaining the safety and wellbeing of our constituents.”
It’s also reported that the institutions will offer vaccinations on campus for students and staff.
Fox 5 Atlanta also reports that there may be an opportunity for some students & staff at Spelman, Morehouse, and Clark Atlanta to be exempt. That will be a case-by-case study however, and each institution will have their own guidelines.
This announcement comes after other universities such as Rutgers, Brown, Duke, Cornell and Northeastern, announced that they are also requiring students to become fully vaccinated before returning to campus next semester.
