#Roommates, although he may not currently be playing in the NFL, athlete and activist Colin Kaepernick continues to make major moves in Hollywood—and his latest project involves the legendary Spike Lee. According to recent reports, Spike Lee has been tapped to direct to multi-part documentary about the life and career of Colin Kaepernick for ESPN.

Fresh off his critically-acclaimed Netflix series ‘Colin In Black &; White,’ Colin Kaepernick is once again ready to bring his inspiring life story to audiences. @Variety reports, Oscar-winning director Spike Lee will bring his iconic film style along as the director of an upcoming documentary about Kaepernick’s life before, during and after being in the NFL. The multi-part documentary is from ESPN Films and production has already started—following the initial announcement in July 2020 as part of Kaepernick’s first-look deal with Walt Disney.

A recent press release formally announcing Spike Lee coming on board as director read, “Kaepernick, who has never given a full, first-person account of his journey, is collaborating closely with Lee who plans to use extensive new interviews and a vast never-before-seen archive to help Kaepernick tell his story from his perspective.”

Back in October, Colin Kaepernick was both the executive producer and star in the Netflix series about his life, which also starred Jaden Michael as Kaepernick in his younger years. That show documents his early days, as he navigated obstacles of race, culture and class as a Black child adopted into a white family.

Additionally, the forthcoming documentary will be executive produced by ESPN Films in association with Spike Lee’s 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks—with former ESPN correspondent Jemele Hill as a producer.
