Steph Curry and Viola Davis are on board to executive produce a documentary about the 2015 Charleston church shooting. The crime was committed by white supremacist Dylann Roof, and it claimed the lives of nine African Americans during a prayer service at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, in Charleston, SC.

According to Deadline, the film is titled “Emanuel,” and Curry and Davis will executive produce alongside Julius Tennon’s JuVee Productions. The documentary will feature interviews from survivors and family members as they tell the story of “justice and faith, love and hate, and the healing power of forgiveness.”

Curry, who will be working through his Unanimous Media banner said, “Emanuel is an incredibly powerful film and we’re honored to come on board as executive producers. The documentary highlights how a horrible tragedy can bring a community together, and spreads an important message about the power of forgiveness. Stories like this are the reason we created Unanimous and entered the entertainment space. I hope the film inspires others like it does me.”

Dylann Roof was sentenced to life in prison without parole back April 10th, 2017.

“Emanuel,” which is directed by Brian-Ivie will screen at DOC NYC later on this month.
