<p>Amid <a href="https://dev.theshaderoom.com/?s=george+floyd">George Floyd</a> protests, Target temporarily closes a reported 175 locations nationwide, including Chicago, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Minneapolis.</p>
<p>According to a statement,”We are heartbroken by the death of George Floyd and the pain it is causing communities across the country. At this time, we have made the decision to close a number of our stores. We anticipate most stores will be closed temporarily,&#8221; read a written statement announcing the closures. “Our focus will remain on our team members’ safety and helping our community heal.&#8221; It’s also reported that employees will receive up to 14 days pay and are allowed to work at other stores. This comes after Target stores were looted, in response to the tragic death of George Floyd.</p>
<p>As previously reported, <a href="https://dev.theshaderoom.com/officer-who-killed-george-floyd-has-been-arrested-and-charged-with-third-degree-murder-update/">Derek Chauvin has been arrested and charged for the death of George Floyd</a>. This comes after nights of protests in Minneapolis. While some were peaceful, others did include<a href="https://dev.theshaderoom.com/looters-take-over-target-in-minneapolis-as-people-demand-justice-for-george-floyd-video/"> looting and burning of 3 police precincts</a>. At the moment, it’s unclear if the other officers will be charged for the death of George Floyd but <a href="https://dev.theshaderoom.com/tsrupdatez-minneapolis-police-officers-involved-in-fatal-arrest-of-george-floyd-have-been-fired/">they have been fired</a>.</p>
<p>Though Target temporarily closes locations, employees will still be paid for 14 days.</p>
<p>This movement has sparked change across the country. Mayors like Eric Garcetti of Los Angeles has decided to cut $150 million from the LAPD budget.<span style="font-weight: 400;">and plans to reinvest back into the communities of color and also women.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">According to Deadline, the mayor stated the city would not increase the LAPD budget of $1.8 billion.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“We will not be increasing our police budget,” said the mayor.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">During the press conference, Garcetti stated he would offer more specifics at a later time but money will be distributed “now, not years from now.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">He also stated that, It’s time to move our rhetoric towards action to end racism in our city,” he said, according to Deadline. “Prejudice can never be part of police work…It takes bravery to save lives, too.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">He also spoke to creating a better communication system that would allow information to follow officers who didn’t uphold their duty to uphold and protect citizens.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“We need to move toward a guardian-based system,” said the mayor, “by developing long term relationships between our youth and police officers.”</span></p>
