<p data-pm-slice="0 0 []">As Pride month is just beginning, a <a href="https://dev.theshaderoom.com/the-texas-department-of-public-safety-corrects-previous-statement-and-says-that-a-teacher-did-close-the-door-but-it-did-not-lock-before-the-uvalde-school-shooting-occurred/">Texas</a> lawmaker announced a proposed legislation that would ban minors from attending drag shows in the state. According to <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/nbc-out/out-politics-and-policy/texas-lawmaker-proposes-ban-minors-watching-drag-shows-rcna32183">NBC News</a>, Republican State Rep. Bryan Slaton said the law was necessary to protect children from &#8220;perverted adults.&#8221; While it may seem like this is coming out of nowhere, reports show this is in response to a viral video of children attending a drag show in Dallas on Saturday.</p>
<p>The event, &#8220;Drag the Kids to Pride Drag Show,&#8221; ​​was held at the Mr. Misster bar. The event was advertised as a family-friendly spin-off of the bar&#8217;s &#8220;Champagne Drag Brunch&#8221; show. In a press release shared on Twitter, Rep Slaton wrote, &#8220;The events of this past weekend were horrifying and show a disturbing trend in which perverted adults are obsessed with sexualizing young children. As a father of two young children, I would never take my children to a drag show, and I know speaker Dade Phelan and the rest of my Republican colleagues wouldn&#8217;t either.&#8221;</p>

<p>He added, &#8220;Protecting our own children isn&#8217;t enough, and our responsibility as lawmakers extends to the sexualization that is happening across Texas.&#8221; The news has other Republican lawmakers voicing their opinions as well. Rep. Majorie Taylor Greene of Georgia also spoke out on the matter. Rep. Greene tweeted, &#8220;It should be illegal to take children into Drag Queen shows and strip clubs. And there should be no federal funding for any school that intentionally confuses children about gender/sexuality.&#8221;</p>
