A video of a young black man being harassed by an cop while cutting grass in Houston has gone viral today. 18-year-old Marvin Gibson recorded himself being approached by an officer who got suspicious of his activity. “When I saw you, you were going door-to-door-to-door,” the officer said to Gibson. The teen explained that he was distributing business cards and flashed it in the camera for everyone to see.
The officer then proceeded to ask for Marvin’s ID, but he didn’t have it on him, so the officer asked for personal information like his full name and birthday. However, each time Marvin asked the officer for his name and badge number, it was withheld from him. Eventually, the unnamed cop pulled out handcuffs and demanded that Marvin turn around with his hands behind his back, however he didn’t know that he was being recorded the whole time. Once Marvin let him know this, he tells the cop that he’s taking him to court.
Upon further investigation, the Houston police dept released a statement saying, “That officer isn’t wearing our uniform and currently not working for us.” Harris County Pct. 7 didn’t know who this cop was either and released their own statement. “That is not our patch and definitely not one of our deputies. He is not even wearing an official uniform.” They later added, “After looking at this video again, I don’t even think this is a patch representative of any the Harris County Constable’s departments.”
