The Botham Jean Foundation Donates Money To Atatiana Jefferson’s Family

The murders of Botham Jean and Atatiana Jefferson have touched hearts across the country, as their senseless deaths at the hands of police officers are just another in a long line of tragedies befalling black people due to law enforcement. In an effort to offer some form of comfort, the Botham Jean Foundation has officially donated money to Atatiana Jefferson’s family.

It’s been less than a week since 28-year-old Atatiana Jefferson was shot and killed by Fort Worth police officer Aaron Dean—who has since been formally charged with murder and resigned from his position. However, the pain and devastation that her family feels is still hard to bear, but the family of Botham Jean has stepped in to help.

As reported by @CNN, the Botham Jean Foundation, started by his family after he was killed by Amber Guyger, who was recently sentenced to 10 years in prison, has donated money to help Atatiana Jefferson’s family financially. The amount of the donation has not been disclosed publicly, but surely anything they donate would be greatly appreciated.

Allisa Findley, Jean’s sister and president of the foundation, issued a statement regarding the act of generosity:

“Losing a family member is hard in any circumstance. Having a loved one taken in this horrific manner is one far more traumatic and a pain no family should have to bear. Unfortunately, too many families have had to suffer at the hands of those paid to serve and protect us.”

The goal of the Botham Jean Foundation is to “provide aid to the most vulnerable” and carry on his legacy, as he “devoted his life to helping people who were less fortunate than him.”

We want to continue to send our prayers to both of their families.
