The Supreme Court Announces That They Will Not Review Bill Cosby’s Overturned Conviction (Update)

Last year, Pennsylvania prosecutors asked the Supreme Court to review Bill Cosby’s overturned conviction in his sexual assault case. On Monday, the court reached a decision and decided not to review the case, leaving in place the previous decision made by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

According to the Associated Press, on Monday, the Supreme Court announced their decision to not review the overturned conviction without comment, leaving Cosby a free man, and bringing an end to his battle in court, after being accused of sexually assaulting various women throughout the years. Cosby was released from prison last June after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled the “non-prosecution agreement” with a prior prosecutor should have precluded him from being criminally charged in the case.

Cosby’s spokesperson Andrew Wyatt  commented about the Supreme Court’s recent decision and said, “This is truly a victory for Mr. Cosby, but it shows that cheating will never get you far in life, and the corruption that lies within Montgomery County District’s Attorney Office has been brought to the center stage of the world.”

As we previously reported, last November, Pennsylvania prosecutors filed a petition asking the U.S. Supreme court to consider whether an agreement made by then-prosecutor Bruce Castor, where he reportedly promised not to file criminal charges against Bill if he testified in a civil lawsuit, should be treated as “a grant of immunity.”

The office of Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele said there was “no evidence that Cosby had a legally binding agreement that he could never be prosecuted.” It was also noted that Castor did not put the agreement into writing nor did he tell anyone in his office about it. The reported agreement was only mentioned publicly after new evidence surfaced.

After Cosby’s release from prison more accusers stepped forward, claiming they had been sexually assaulted by the veteran comedian/ actor. Last October, actress Lili Bernard came forward and filed a lawsuit after she alleged that she was sexually assaulted back in 1990.
