With plastic surgery being on the rise it’s clear that there is a definite desire in our generation to be perfect. From the the IG models to actual celebs perfection of beauty seems to show itself through a nice ass and slim waist. Well 10-year-old, Olivia Allen is saying forget all of that as she is setting new ways to help women in our society love theirselves.
On August 22nd of this year, Allen held her “I Can Be” conference in Louisville, KY where about 50 girls and their parents challenged physical, emotional and psychological challenges that young women are faced with every day.
When she was asked why she started this conference, Olivia said, “I realize some girls’ confidence goes down when they start puberty.” She knew that other girls would relate to her after feeling the same way, and decided that she wanted to be the one to motivate the girls.
“It’s important to give back,” Allen told The Huffington Post. “There are a lot of people in our community and if I help someone, they’ll help someone else… and it will be a cycle.” According to The Huffington post, “The conference also featured two keynote speakers (Barbara Sexton Smith and Ashley D. Miller) who addressed confidence and pursuing your dreams. Greg Fischer, mayor of Louisville, opened the conference and commended Allen for her work in the community.”
It seems like Olivia has always had a desire to help people, because after seeing a homeless man on the street, her mother told the HuffPost that she wanted to “raise money to buy them a house,” but she suggested that she do something that could impact more people within their means. Since then, Olivia has organized toy drives as well as food drives for charity and underprivileged kids. She plans to do many more conferences and toy drives, so this will not be your last time hearing about her.
